It’s not every day that a major university decides that it’s going to host a play about three men in a loving relationship who run a gay porn studio, but that’s exactly what has happened at Vassar College in¬†Poughkeepsie, New York, and a fascinating panel discussion with the playwright¬†Jack Levinson and the men who inspired his play, Jake Jaxson, Benny Morecock and RJ Sebastian, will take place before the grand unveiling of the play itself.

The play itself, titled “Gay Sex,” first materialized after Levinson read a New York Magazine profile piece about Jake, RJ, and Benny, and their successful rise in the adult entertainment business. As a stage adaptation of this article, the play brings up topics of conversation rarely heard in a scholarly institution including polyamory, representations of sexuality in art, and the legitimization of the pornographic medium.

How did this come about? Well, Vassar College has since it’s foundation been known as a liberal place of learning so it’s perhaps not too shocking that they’re happy to encourage all sorts of out-of-the-box thinking. But could they possibly be as liberal as encouraging a play about three men creating a gay porn company?

Well, it wasn’t as hard a sell as you’d imagine. When Jack pitched his play to the university departments for funding, he showed them scenes from CockyBoys movies- not the more, shall we say, smutty stuff but the material which surrounds the sex- the chats with the stars, the flirtations with poetry and wordplay, the artistic buildups that precede the sex. The clip that ultimately won the administration over was taken from the eroti-doc A Thing of Beauty where star Gabriel Clark speaks about a medical episode which saw him having major surgery to remove a brain tumor. The university staff were bowled over — this wasn’t a studio that was simply a sex factory, churning out mindless cock-drenched drivel, but rather a producer of art house projects that straddle intimacy, sex, romance and everything in between.

“Gay Sex” will premiere on Vassar’s campus at Sanders Classroom 212-Spitzer Auditorium on October 24th, 2013. For more information, check out Vassar’s Fall calendar here.

I will be driving up to attend this! Getting a chance to hear you speak….Yes please.
You know, people are now beginning to realise that CockyBoys isn’t simply a porn company, but an art institution. You create not only our fantasies on film, but a view into ourselves and our desires. You allow us to not only fantasize about these amazing men you film, but we learn about them. It allows us to feel closer to them, albeit still through the screen. That closeness brings us back for more…we want to learn more about these men we fantasize about. We want to know that they’re sane and healthy and witty….because that’s what is sexy.
When people say Dale, Colby, Jake, Max, Levi….just first names…I think instantly of CockyBoys.
And that’s why I come back again and again.
